The Court of Claims adjudicates claims made against the State of Illinois. General Claims consist of lapsed appropriations, torts and property damage, contractual disputes, unlawful imprisonments, and payments to public safety employees and active military killed in the line of duty. The Court also adjudicates claims made by victims of violent crimes to be compensated for medical bills, funeral bills, lost wages, etc., that result from the crime. This program is funded by the General Revenue Fund and a federal grant allocation made to the state equaling 75% of the funds spent by the state.
