Explanatory Information
The Egg Inspection Program serves to protect public health and ensure confidence in Illinois shell eggs and egg products by inspecting locations that distribute and handle eggs and egg products. The decrease in egg inspections completed from fiscal year 2019 to fiscal year 2020 was largely due to logistical concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Footnotes
This Indicator is at the request of the USDA Poultry and Egg Grading services. During the fiscal year, services were not requested. This Indicator is at the request of in-state supplier Pearl Valley. During the fiscal year, services were not requested as frequently due to on-site USDA inspector handling most certification work. Number of eggs taken off sale varies each year depending on results of inspections. Fluctuations in numbers of inspections completed largely due to limitations imposed by COVID-19.
