    Explanatory Information

The Bureau of Agriculture Products Inspection (Bureau) protects growers, livestock owners, and the environment by inspecting feed, seed, and fertilizer products. The Bureau registers feed, seed, and fertilizer products; licenses producers and retailers; reviews information labels on feed, seed, and fertilizer products for accuracy; and, operates laboratories to test products and confirm accuracy of labels. The increase in labels reviewed from fiscal year 2019 to the two succeeding years is primarily due to increased requests from product manufactures. The decrease in number of products registered from fiscal year 2019 to the two succeeding years is due to the COVID-19 pandemic and manufacturers limiting production and development.

    Footnotes
A COVID-19-related backlog of untested samples from fiscal year 2020 created delays in the analysis of samples submitted in fiscal year 2021. In addition, laboratory analysis also was negatively impacted due to delays in laboratory instrument maintenance and repairs by contracted vendors.
