2022 Natural and Cultural Resource Protection
Mission Statement The mission of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is to protect and manage the state's natural and cultural resources and to provide opportunities for all to use, enjoy and learn about these resources.
Program Goals and Objectives
  1. Restore, enhance, and sustain Illinois' natural and cultural resources for present and future generations.
    1. Acquire interest in land to meet the public's open space and resource protection needs.
      1. Maximize the effectiveness of laws, statutes, and administrative rules to better protect resources.
        1. Balance resource consumption and use with resource protection.
          1. Avoid, minimize, and mitigate adverse impacts to Illinois lands and waters that result from mining and mineral extraction activities.
