The Illinois Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission received 24,370 public inquiries and distributed 28,990 educational and informational materials to the public for the Communication Access for Individuals with Hearing Loss program. The Commission improved Communication Access by sponsoring and/or hosting professional development opportunities for 702 participants who are sign language interpreters. The Commission also conducted testing, evaluation, and licensing for sign language interpreters for the deaf by processing 1,454 applications, issuing 936 licenses to sign language interpreters, and administering 106 Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certification tests.
