2025 Communication Access for Individuals with Hearing Loss
Mission Statement The IDHHC shall promote system change, community education, and collaboration to advance communication access for all individuals with hearing loss in Illinois.
Program Goals and Objectives
  1. Promote rights and independence for individuals with hearing loss.
    1. Promote and assist with Deaf Self-Advocacy Training to empower individuals in the exercise of self-advocacy.
    2. Participate in various community outreach events and collaboration with stakeholders.
    3. Respond to public inquiries for information and provide subject matter expertise to service providers.
    4. Disseminate news and information through the IDHHC website and Email Alert.
  2. Provide educational awareness and resources regarding hearing loss.
    1. Provide educational awareness about effective communication needs.
    2. Provide workshops and trainings on removing communication barriers and providing effective communication.
  3. Increase numbers and access to qualified/licensed sign language interpreters and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) providers.
    1. Coordinate professional development opportunities for sign language interpreters.
    2. Provide directory of licensed sign language interpreters.
    3. Provide voluntary registry of CART providers.
