Agency Narrative
For more than 125 years, Eastern Illinois University (EIU) has served the residents and students of the region and across the state. Focusing on academic excellence and student success, EIU offers nearly 100 undergraduate majors and over 36 graduate degree and certificate programs. As a regional comprehensive institution, EIU remains committed to access, opportunity, and affordability. EIU continues to offer superior, accessible undergraduate and graduate education, where students learn the methods and results of free and rigorous inquiry in the arts, humanities, sciences, and professions, guided by a faculty known for excellence in teaching, research, creative activity, and service. In fiscal year 2025, EIU had total expenditures of $176.4 million and 1,280 total staff. EIU's current graduation rate is 49.4%, and the first-time freshman to sophomore retention rate is 68.2%.
