The University of Illinois System is among the nation’s leading public university systems and is the largest comprehensive system of higher education in Illinois.

Anchored by its three best-in-class universities in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield — along with a Chicago-based comprehensive health enterprise — the U of I System advances education, research, and public service at scale, and drives innovation and opportunity across the state and beyond.

The system enrolls more than 101,000 students each year and includes leading graduate and doctoral research centers, two medical schools, two law schools, world-class engineering and business colleges, top liberal arts colleges, regional health science campuses, and educational programs that reach residents of all 102 Illinois counties through Illinois Extension. Together, these institutions form a powerful academic and public service enterprise that prepares students, advances knowledge, and strengthens communities throughout Illinois.

In addition to its academic, research, public engagement, and health-care missions, the U of I System plays a central role in the state’s economic vitality. The system contributes $24.9 billion annually to Illinois’ economy and supports approximately 225,000 jobs statewide. UI Health, the system’s urban health enterprise, delivers more than 1.5 million hospital and clinic patient visits each year, providing essential care while advancing clinical education and research.
