| Mission Statement | The Merit Board has jurisdiction over the discipline, removal, demotion, and suspension of Illinois State Police officers. The Merit Board may exercise this jurisdiction in two different ways. The first is a complaint filed by the Director of the Illinois State Police seeking to suspend an officer for greater than 30 days, terminate an officer, or demote an officer. The second is a petition for review. The Director of the Illinois State Police may suspend an officer for 30 days or less. An officer so suspended has the right to petition the Merit Board to review the suspension. The Merit Board may, by unanimous decision, dismiss a petition for review without a hearing if it has determined there is no substantial basis for review. | ||||
