2025 Adjudicate Complaints of Discrimination Under the Human Rights Act
Mission Statement The Illinois Human Rights Commission is dedicated to promoting freedom from unlawful discrimination as defined by the Illinois Human Rights Act and to providing a neutral forum for resolving complaints of discrimination filed under the Act.
Program Goals and Objectives
  1. Freedom from unlawful discrimination against any individual because of their: Age (40+); Ancestry; Arrest Record; Citizenship Status (with regard to employment); Color; Conviction Record; Disability (physical and mental); Familial Status (with respect to real estate transactions); Gender Identity; Marital Status; Military Status; National Origin; Orders of Protection; Pregnancy; Race; Religion; Retaliation; Sex; Sexual Harassment; Sexual Orientation or Unfavorable Military Discharge.

    As of fiscal year 2024, presentation was updated to reflect Service, Effort, and Accomplishments by each agency or Commission (Human Rights Commission and Torture Inquiry Relief Commission).

    The fiscal year 2023 Actual data- Number of cases received with the commission totaled 351 cases, including: 21 complainant-filed complaints, 84 Department of Human Rights-filed complaints, 235 requests for reviews, 2 Defaults and 9 settlements. The fiscal year 2023 Actual data– Number of cases closed/disposed of totaled 483 including: 9 administrative closures, 121 Final Orders and Decisions, 9 Department of Human Rights settlements, 239 requests for review, 14 full Commission En Banc matters, and 91 notices of no exceptions. The fiscal year 2024 Actual data– Number of cases received with the commission totaled 381 cases, including: 30 complainant-filed complaints, 77 Department of Human Rights-filed complaints, 258 requests for reviews, 5 defaults, and 11 settlements. The fiscal year 2024 Actual data– Number of cases closed/disposed of totaled 447, including: 9 administrative closures, 76 Final Orders and Decisions, 8 Department of Human Rights settlements, 235 requests for review, 6 Administrative Law Section settlements, 27 full Commission En Banc matters, and 86 notices of no exceptions. The fiscal year 2025 Actual data- Number of cases received with the commission totaled 456 complaints, including: 41 filed by complaints, 114 Department filed complaints, 284 Requests for Review, 8 Defaults and 9 Settlements. The fiscal year 2025 Actual data– Number of cases closed/disposed of totaled 469, including 9 administrative closures, 79 Final Orders and Decisions, 13 Department of Human Rights settlements, 307 requests for review, 4 Administrative Law Section settlements, 19 full Commission En Banc matters, and 38 notices of no exceptions.
